A General Assembly of the Ethiopian Football Federation had
in January this year attempted to kick Dr. Woldegiorgise out of
office for what they described as a “dismal” performance in
running Ethiopian Football.
However, on the 22nd of this month, FIFA and the Confederation
of African Football (CAF) released a roadmap to stabilize the
situation at the EFF.
The football bodies categorically stated that Dr. Woldegiorgise
and his executive committee were the only leadership recognized
by them in the country, but added that an extra-ordinary meeting
of the EFF should be heard on March 29.
It was revealed that the agenda of the meeting should simply be
“a motion for dismissal” of the current Executive Committee, and
the motion would have to be backed by two-third majority of
valid votes cast by official delegates in a secret ballot.
The EFF on the other hand believe that FIFA has taken a rash
step and have failed to properly analyze the facts and carefully
assess documents presented to them by the EFF.
"FIFA officials have taken a hasty decision before properly
assessing the facts and documents submitted by us," the EFF said
in a statement released to the public.
"Their decision was biased and one-sided.
"We are now trying to develop a sustainable project that would
enhance the standard of football in Ethiopia from the current
dismal position to a high level, and we hoped FIFA would stand
at our side."
